How Long Does It Take To Get Used To Using Dentures?
While the exact amount of time varies from person to person, both partial and full dentures take around three to four weeks, on average, to get used to. During this time, your jaw adjusts to using dentures while eating and speaking.
How To Care For Dentures
Understanding how to clean and care for your dentures is essential. Improper handling can damage your dentures or create a build-up of bacterial deposits.
When cleaning your dentures, use a soft bristle brush, water, and non-abrasive toothpaste. Gently brush all the surfaces of your dentures to remove plaque and food particles. When you do this on a daily basis, it helps to prevent bacterial build-up and staining.
Along with cleaning your dentures thoroughly at the end of each day, you should also remove and rinse them after every meal to wash away food debris. Remember to use denture toothpaste and avoid hot water or abrasive products. When you remove your dentures each night, keep them moist by placing them in water or a denture-soaking solution.
Likewise, you will need to schedule regular dental care checkups. Your dentist can then evaluate the state of your dentures and make sure they don’t need any adjustments. During these visits, your dentist will professionally clean your dentures and get the hard-to-reach plaque- similar to professional teeth cleanings.

Due to dentures being considered a major procedure, your dental insurance should cover around 50% of the cost. If you’re paying for your dentures out-of-pocket, expect to spend around $1,800 to $3,000 for traditional, full dentures- and approximately $1,500 for partial dentures. These prices vary depending on the material of your dentures and other factors that your dentist will walk you through during the design process.
